6 MaterIals
6.1 A part of a regulator in contact with LP-Gas shall be resistant to the action of the fluid under the service conditions to wtudi it is subjected.
6.2 With reference to the requirement in 6.1, elastomeric materials are to be subjected to the LP-Gas
Compatibility Test, Section 30; the Accelerated-Aging Test, Section 33; and the Low Temperature Test,
Section 34. Polymenc matenals are to be subjected to the LP-Gas Compatibity Test. Section 30, and the
Accelerated-Aging Test. Section 33.
Exception: Acetal poers, chlorotnfiuoroelhylene polymers. tetrafluoroethylerie, fluonnated ethylene propylene polymers, and polyam4es of composition potyhexamettiytene adrpamKie O( potycapfoamide polymers (njIon 6.6/6. or 6/16) are only to be subjected to the Accelerated-Aging Test. Section 33.
6.3 When corrosion of a part interferes with the function of the regulator or corrosion results in deterioration, the part shall be of a con’osion-resistant material or be provided with a corrosion-resistant protective coating.
6.4 A protective coating shall provide resistance against corrosion to a deçee not less than that provided by the protective coatings specified in 6.5.
6.5 Cadmium plating shall be minwnum 0.0003 inch (0.0076 mm) thick, and zinc plating shall be minimum
00005 inch (0.013 mm) thick.
Exception: Mien threads constitute the major portion of the area of a part, the thickness of the cadmium or zinc plating shall be minImum 0.00015 inCh (0.0038 mm) thick.
6.6 Thebodyand bonnetofaregulatorshalbemadeo(one the materials specified in(a)-(g),or of a specification that has been determined to be the equivalent. A nonmetallic material shall not be used for the body or bonnet of a regulator.
